My name is Jon-Mark Davey. I've been photographing wildlife for over 4 decades. I started shooting wildlife in the wilds of Florida with a Minolta range-finder camera I borrowed from my sister. Once I had some money my wife let me purchase a set of Olympus cameras with lenses, winders, and all kinds of goodies.Luckily I worked at a television station where I could purchase film from the factory through the station and they allowed me to process my film at the end of film runs before the chemicals were recycled. I clicked over 50,000 stills with my two OMs and captured countless of hours of wildlife video on my portable BETA camera/recorder sets.
My first digital camera was a Casio 640 x 480 camera, followed by a Sony Mavica. It wasn't until Canon released the first Rebel DSLR did I take digital photography seriously. I purchased the Rebel, transitioned quickly and retired my old Olympus friends after almost 30 years of pretty hard use.
Since it came to the market just over 2 years ago I've been shooting with a camera from the new Canon SX line called the SX1. It isn't a DSLR but it has many of the same features, including some extreme lens glass My SX1 gives me a lot of the "professional" features I demand without the weight, footprint or price. It's very high end "snapshot" but it's priced really more for the semi-pro market than the home user because it has pro-features and pro-quality.
I do have a page or two about myself and my cameras in the blog archives.
My purpose for this blog is to offer some really neat pictures, videos and stories from my archives and current expeditions. Jo, my wife, and I are avid Florida explorers, we love Florida, the people and wildlife. It's a great place to live.
