Stairway to heaven.

St. Augustine Liighthouse

Stairway to heaven was a photograph taken on a trip to St. Augustine a while back. My wife,Jo, and I were climbing the stairs of the old lighthouse when this image jumped out and demanded to be captured.

This final image is a pencil drawing rendered from the photo using a process called Dynamic Auto Paint from Mediachance. Mediachance has been writing great photo and video programs for over a decade and I use one or more of them daily.

Stairway to heaven rendered to a 16 megapixel paper textured master and looks great as an 11 x 17 print. Pictures taken, rendered to an artistic medium then printed are awesome. Somewhere along the line we’re losing our love for the real printed art medium. I suggest every photographer occasionally print your work to some medium that can be viewed on something other than a glowing screen.

Ponce Inlet Lighthouse

This rendition is a view of the Pont Verde Lighthouse just south of Daytona Beach. This is the tallest lighthouse on the east coast and is a very nice walk to the top. The view is breathtaking and is always full of people.

Cattle Train Due Any Minute

Somehow these birds knew that the cattle train was due and that it would be full of cows. Amazing birds!

This is a photo of a group of Cattle Egrets captured while I was exploring a road along the Miami Canal which cuts through the Sugar Cane fields in Palm Beach County, Florida. This area is the main sugar cane producer in the USA and has some wonderful wildlife habitat. My wife Jo and I love to spend time exploring the area from the Everglades north to Lake Okeechobee, where we see all kinds of birds, Raccoon, and Alligators. One trip we counted over 100 ‘Gators sunning themselves along the banks of the water.

Miracle In Flight

This is a felt tip drawing of Miracle, my flying acrobat. Miracle came to us as a rescue from the power company at the turn of the century. Our book, “Parrots in the City“, was inspired by Miracle’s rescue and life. He was a precious creature and taught me so much about how this bird species acts in the wild in both flight and personality.

Miracle offered me hours and hours of flight photography and video and was so predictable that capturing images like this was almost routine. One day I’m going to publish some of the best shots I have of my buddy Miracle.

Miracle had a great personality, he was sweet and loved his mommy, not me so much. Early on we were best friends but he would fly at arm’s length because I used to be able to reach out and capture him by hand as he flew through the room delivering sticks to his nest.

Miracle was a sweet and fun companion bird and we miss him so much for all the hours and hours of entertainment he provided for us. He gave us such a love and joy for birds and how they live.
