Art is an interesting thing. It’s said that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. While that may be true art is also in the eye of the beholder. I’ve taken a lot of pictures through the years and when i publish some of them viewers report back to me that they like the pictures I take, “they’re art”. Many years ago I took some pretty neat pictures, got some great mats and frames and tried to sell my photos as “art”. While I didn’t market them I did place them in an environment where I really expected a couple to sell. After 2 years in a church book store no one purchased these really neat mountain scenes with scriptures. Yes, they were priced right, the placement on the wall was such that everyone who checked out got to see them. After 2 years I assumed that no one liked them and that they just would not sell so I removed them so the book store could post something that might actually sell.
That taught me that art that sells is a funny combination of good pictures, positioning and a bit of luck. Since that experience I decided that selling photographs was not my idea of a good way to make a living so I take pictures and create “art” just for fun.
